Week 8 Year 2
We had such an incredible day. Daddy worked from home and since it's the day before a public holiday he only had to work half a day which meant that were able to have an adventure together after he finished which we were all very much looking forward to. To top it all off today was also an exceptionally warm sunny day with temperatures of 19 degrees!
You me and Forrest made it downstairs around 6:30 and while he had boob I pumped some milk so that you and daddy could feed Forrest when I went to the gym if he needed some. Afterwards he wanted to practice his standing and as usual you snatched my phone so that you could take photos, pretty much all day long you're trying to grab it so that you can snap away. Yet another thing I love about you.
Daddy made his way down soon after and he took over while I got dressed and made my way to the gym, I had just gotten a gym membership this past Monday and started going in the evenings once daddy gets home from work at 20:00 but decided to take advantage of him being home to go first thing in the morning, all my life when I've gone to the gym I've always been a morning person but now for the first time ever I've realised I work out so much better in the evenings. I had to take some me time this past Saturday and catch up on some sleep because I had been starting to feel really drained and could feel myself becoming edgy which is a sign for me that I'm overdue for some self-care. The sleep really helped but joining the gym has helped me even more, it just feels so good to do something for myself.
When I got back and while I was making myself breakfast you were rummaging through the fridge as you usually do and grabbed the strawberries, one of them had mould growing on it and instead of being grossed out, you ran into the living room and grabbed one of your favourite books, Explanatorium of Nature, and found the page about mould and became so excited that it had a photo of exactly what you had just seen and demanded that I read the page to you right then, and this is another thing I love about being a mumma: having front row seats to witness your hunger for learning. Whenever something captures your interest you want to learn about it right now, not tomorrow or later but now, I love that about you, you truly bring me into the present, one of the best gifts you could ever share with me.
After I finished eating and once Forrest was asleep in the wrap you wanted to dry more dandelions and make more bookmarks (we did loads yesterday after our outing to our beach) you wanted to make one for Nanny who you can't wait to see again so we went on a little walk just outside our house in search of dandelions and other flowers to press. When we returned we placed the flowers in our microwave flower press and you loved the counting out loud to time them. They turned out pretty good, I love this little flower press of ours which we got last year, I love that it's instant, of course there's something really special about doing it the old fashioned way, but it's also nice to be able to make things with the flowers straight away.
While Nixie was occupied with her paper dolls you (Forrest) and I went upstairs so i could change you and for the first time looking at yourself in the mirror made you laugh so hard! It was the sweetest sight my eyes had seen, you really do melt me with that gorgeous grin of yours and your beautiful sparkly blue eyes. You are just changing so much these days, you are currently obsessed with wanting to stand up and I have discovered that this is one of the main reasons for your blood curdling skreetches that you sometimes do. You also love to flail your arms and legs as fast as you possibly can while making the cutest cooing sounds. There is one thing though that really upsets you and it happens every single day which is my milk spraying in your face, everytime this happens you scream bloody murder, I even try to anticipate it to stop it from happening but a lot of the times I fail at doing so. The same thing used to happen to your sister but she thought it was the funniest thing on the planet. I'm already seeing so many differences between you.
You (Nixie) were extra sensitive for the first part of the day and there were lots of anger explosions. You got upset with me for going down the stairs first, you got upset when daddy said you had to leave the office if you couldn't play nicely, I even had to resort to taking away some of your toy cars which you at one point were throwing at me.
But once we got ourselves outside everything became amazing. Our first stop was to Roydon Woods to see if the bluebells were in bloom yet. I took Forrest out of his car seat and noticed he had done a poo and when I went to change him I discovered it wasn't just any poo, he had done a giant leaky poonami that went all up his back and unfortunately I had somehow managed to forget the wet wipes! I couldn't believe it! Instead of putting Forrest back in his car seat me & him went and found a nice spot to lay out our blanket and wait while you and daddy went to the shop to get some.
I felt so bad that you (Forrest) had to sit in your poo until Nixie and daddy got back but at the same time it was really nice to have this little time just the two of us out in nature watching the sheep that were in the field in front of us. You didn't seem bothered by the poo and entertained me with your giggles and little cooing sounds. A half hour later and they returned with not only wet wipes but all sorts of snacks! We continued into the woods and to my surprise the bluebells were in bloom, they arrived earlier this year!
You (Nixie) enjoyed running through the path and climbing the trees, and made many requests to daddy to lift you up into the higher parts that you couldn't get to yourself. We didn't stay too long here because I was hungry and wanted to have our picnic and I really wanted to have it somewhere new so we headed to some heathland and found the perfect spot on top of a hill with a view, it was a gorgeous spot!
After eating some food and after nursing Forrest you and I went on our own little adventure while daddy got some special cuddles from Forrest. It felt absolutely magical walking hand in hand with you while we explored new territory. We even came across 4 deer who didn't run away from us entirely, they stayed within our eye sight so we followed them, we had to scramble through prickly gorse, hike through muddy bogs while you declared, “I'm Hilda! I'm an adventurer and can do anything!”. We ended up in a really beautiful area and it felt so good to have this time with just you, I've really missed our adventures I mean before Forrest arrived we were having them all the time, just the two of us and it's made me realise how we need to make sure we still get to have these adventures on our own, I could tell it made you really happy. We had ventured quite far away from daddy so I thought we should head back and as we approached our little hill we could see daddy dancing like a crazy person with Forrest in the wrap!
You and I chased each other up the hill where we found Forrest sound asleep and daddy still wanting to continue his dance session, he wanted you to join in but you flat out refused! And that really made us laugh, it was as though you were already showing signs of being embarrassed by us! We continued to have so much fun together, I chased you around for ages & when I did catch you I picked you up and spun you around in the air and each time I did so the most beautiful squeals of laughter would come out of you! You were so full of love and I just couldn't get enough of your cuddles.
After a while we continued on our way, and walked through some woods where we saw more deer before figuring out how to cross another bog to get to another path across a road to watch the sunset. Once across you found some sand where you proceeded to have the most epic play in, you poured the sand all over yourself and had the time of your life, me and daddy just kept out distance from you and watched in absolute amusement.
Once the sun had gone over the horizon, we headed back home. For some reason you decided you weren't going to have a bath and on this occasion there was absolutely no way you were going to skip it and this caused a giant explosion of rage from you, I'm truly amazed by the rage that can come out of your little body! You and daddy were in the bathroom while me and Forrest were downstairs and it really sounded like world war 3 was happening, I was sure neighbours two blocks away could hear you! Daddy just let you let it all out without trying to talk to you, he decided in the moment that the best thing to do was to ignore you, even when you were immersed in throwing things and after a while he could tell you were losing steam and simply asked you, “are you finished?” and you said, “yes” and after that you got undressed and hopped into the shower and all was well in your world, and the rest of your bath ended up being the happiest experience ever!
Before going to bed though you came downstairs to say goodnight to me and gave me the sweetest cuddles, you actually fell asleep doing so and daddy had to carry you to bed!
