Colder weather means more painting!
Creating and getting messy with this little lady is one of my most favourite things to do and here are some photos from the last few days of what we've been up to. Now that the weather is getting colder and colder I think we'll be having lots more days like these, & that's one of the wonderful things about winter; getting all cozy inside and getting creative!
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw
This is our second bowl that we've made and this one was made especially for her to keep her crystals in. For the past year she's really beein into crystals and she loves to breathe in their energy and place them on her heart, I thought it was about time she had her very own special bowl for them. This bowl took three days; the first day it was molding the plaster of paris into the shape of a bowl we wanted by covering a bowl with cling film and then dipping strips of plaster of paris into water and covering the bowl with them. the 2nd day we painted the outside of the bowl and the third day, the inside.
"Play energizes us and enlivens us. It eases our burdens. It renews our natural sense of optimism and opens us up to new possibilities."- Stuart Brown
And the following photos are from our first body paint session of the week. At the moment she would rather be using her own body as a canvas and is currently much more interested in covering herself with paint than she is using acrylics and paintbrushes. And before we had even begun with the paints she had coloured herself in with marker! I just love her free-spirit!
Each time we have one of our painting sessions I learn new ways to make it easier. the latest thing I've learned is to make sure I'm wearing leggings and to always keep a pair of flip flops to the side so that when it comes time to get her upstairs there's less of a chance of me getting paint anywhere I don't want it but so far (knock on wood) we haven't had any accidents!
"It is a happy talent to know how to play."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
The next set of photos are from yesterday's session which was definitely one of my favourites so far! Since it was on a Sunday Kevin was home and was able to join in and the amounts of giggles and squeals that came out of Nixie were some of the best I've heard to date! Unfortunately one of the negatives about this place is that I can't really join in and get covered in paint with her like I could in London because if I did so there's no chance in the world that we wouldn't get paint everywhere trying to get upstairs into the bath. But it's OK we still have lots of fun!
